| As a son of a mother who was an

| |
| | real pretty or nearly crying as if
|
| experience the cause of alcoholism.
| |
| | something deep within was bothering her.
|
| Unlike food that satisfies a physical
| |

|
| need, alcohol which provides no bodily

|
| nourishment satisfies a spiritual
| |
| | Colonel, U.S. Army) who everyone said was
|
| need.Alcohol is a mind-altering chemical
| |
| | the nicest man they'd ever met was deeply
|
| and anesthetic that dulls the emotional
| |
| | troubled by his only child's battle with
|
| pain of one's existence. The gnawing
| |
| | the bottle. He would often go driving
|
| internal dissatisfaction with life is the
| |
| | around the city looking for her. I once
|
| primary reason for substance abuse. Young
| |
| | saw it written outside of a local bar,
|
| men who don't have the courage in and of
| |
| | "Don't let Marsha in here!"Daddy's little
|
| themselves to approach a young lady think
| |
| | girl died one early morning at 2am when
|
| by drinking their inhibitions will lessen
| |
| | running across a street drunk. She was
|
| if not go away. Hence the dissatisfaction
| |
| | hit by an 18 year-old driver who was also
|
| ultimately is with oneself and his or her
| |
| | drunk. Drinking and driving is a deadly
|
| life. Sadly many resort to substances
| |
| | combination. My father said at the funeral
|
| before they work on themselves within.
| |
| | he had never seen my grandfather look so
|
| After the substance wears off you have
| |
| | grievous. Pop-Pop (as I affectionately
|
| got the same personal challenges and
| |
| | called my grandfather) was like a Dad to
|
| emotional pain to contend with.My mother
| |
| | me. I and my grandma Nana adored him and
|
| was always troubled by the fact she was
| |
| | he us. He never missed one of my baseball
|
| adopted. Even though my beloved
| |
| | games. He participated in Cub Scouts with
|
| grandparents gave her all of their love
| |
| | me. And so much more!Ironically Pop-Pop
|
| and everything under the sun, she found
| |
| | had a problem putting down the bottle
|
| no comfort within. My entire childhood
| |
| | too, although he was a functional
|
| all I knew about my mother was that she

| was either out getting drunk, in jail
| |
| | daughter Marsha and nearly losing my Nana
|
| under arrest, or at a mental ward
| |
| | too due to a hiatal hernia Pop-Pop
|
| receiving psychiatric care for
| |
| | started finding a degree of temporary
|
| rehabilitation. I do have one fond memory
| |
| | comfort in the bottle.I had noticed when
|
| from when I was about 5 years old of my
| |
| | I was staying with my grandparents and
|
| mother rubbing my back while I was laying
| |
| | using Pop-Pop's car that he had stashed
|
| in bed, a sweet experience which I
| |
| | some little vodka bottles in his trunk.
|
| savor.Thankfully my maternal
| |
| | Maybe in some strange way that is how he
|
| grandparents, father, and step-mother
| |
| | got closed to his deceased daughter. I
|
| stood in the gap and cared for me in the
| |
| | tried to gently confront him about it and
|
| absence of my mother.Alcoholics have an
| |
| | ask him to just drink at home and not in
|
| intense spiritual thirst that if unmet
| |
| | his car behind the wheel. His eyesight
|
| will drive them as they seek to find
| |
| | wasn't the greatest anyhow. A couple
|
| spiritual harmony, whereby they can be
| |
| | years after my mom died, Pop-Pop took a
|
| made whole. The hippie movement of the
| |
| | bad fall around 11:30am at a local
|
| 1960s rejected the progression of
| |

|
| materialism their parents had made and
| |
| | the ER where he was admitted for the
|
| replaced it with their form of a
| |

|
| spiritual quest. Sadly their parents who
| |

|
| neglected to provide their children with
| |
| | Upon going to the store to retrieve his
|
| some of the true spiritual riches they
| |
| | car I found two small bottles of vodka in
|
| did have as they went hard after getting
| |
| | the door compartment (one of which had
|
| for them the things they did not. How
| |
| | been opened and was half empty).Pop-Pop
|
| ironic that the first American generation
| |
| | spent his last two months bed ridden in a
|
| to have it all was the generation which
| |
| | nursing home and then died. My Nana and I
|
| turned to substances to find relief. The
| |
