| So it looks like another weekend of heavy
| |
| | is tough to find, since
|
| rain in Boston.
| |
| | it's hidden in a neighborhood away from
|
| This is, what, the 7th or 8th weekend in
| |
| | the ocean, but
|
| a row with rain? I
| |
| | worth seeking out.Just before you reach
|
| love Boston, but this is ridiculous. With
| |
| | San Diego, you hit La Jolla, a tony
|
| the rain, my daydreams of San Diego, CA,
| |
| | community that seems to have more
|
| seem to
| |
| | investment places
|
| keep popping up more and more (call it
| |
| | than restaurants. I like La Jolla,
|
| California
| |
| | though, with its spectacular
|
| dreaming). The other night, I was
| |
| | downtown park above the ocean cliffs,
|
| listening to a great rock
| |
| | and its narrow,
|
| station from Encinitas on Internet
| |
| | crooked lanes. Just south of the center
|
| radio. It got me to thinking
| |
| | of La Jolla is a little
|
| about Encinitas, where my cousins used
| |
| | restaurant called Bahia Don Bravo. The
|
| to live before they
| |
| | owners of this
|
| moved up the coast to La Costa. One of my
| |
| | authentic Mexican restaurant have a few
|
| favorite restaurants in Encinitas is the
| |
| | branches in San
|
| 101 Diner.
| |
| | Diego, but this one is special, since
|
| Located about 4 blocks from my favorite
| |
| | you can order the food
|
| beach in the world
| |
| | to go and walk a few blocks down a side
|
| (Moonlight Beach), the 101 Diner has
| |
| | street to one of the
|
| everything, from great
| |
| | most spectacular views of the Pacific
|
| breakfast and lunch entrees to outdoor
| |
| | Ocean that you will
|
| seating to a friendly,
| |
| | ever see. And there is even a bench
|
| all-around nice guy of an owner. Almost
| |
| | where the view is, so
|
| as good, and just
| |
| | you can eat in relative comfort. Bahia
|
| down the street, is Kim's Restaurant,
| |
| | Don Bravo has the type
|
| which has terrific
| |
| | of Mexican food that you just can't find
|
| Vietnamese food. Better yet, neither of
| |
| | in Boston. I always go
|
| these restaurants is
| |
| | there when traveling to San Diego, and
|
| well-known (if you have looked at the
| |
| | always miss it when
|
| site I founded,
| |
| | I'm back in Boston.Finally, you reach
|
| Boston's Hidden Restaurants, you would
| |
| | the wonderful city of San Diego. Where to
|
| know I have a
| |
| |
|
| thing for great restaurants that haven't
| |
| | go for food? Well, there are too many
|
| been discovered).Heading south toward San
| |
| | great places to
|
| Diego, another memorable, but
| |
| | mention here. A couple of standouts are
|
| little-known, restaurant can be found in
| |
| | Point Loma
|
| beautiful
| |
| | Seafood, with its memorable view of the
|
| Cardiff-by-the-Sea. Pipes Cafe is a
| |
| | city across the
|
| breakfast spot that is
| |
| | harbor, and the Coyote Cafe in Old Town.
|
| mainly frequented by surfers and Cardiff
| |
| | But my favorite is
|
| residents looking
| |
| | a little hamburger joint in Ocean Beach
|
| to show up late to work (word is, Trevor
| |
| | called Hodad's,
|
| Hoffman, the great
| |
| | which is where I had the best
|
| reliever for the San Diego Padres, is
| |
| | cheeseburger I have had
|
| also a regular here).
| |
| | anywhere in the country (and I've had a
|
| Pipes has fantastic breakfast plates,
| |
| | lot of
|
| and the dining
| |
| | cheeseburgers!). Juicy, thick, hearty,
|
| outdoors on the patio is a must.As you
| |
| | and smothered in
|
| continue down the coast, you come to
| |
| | cheese, the burgers here are impossibly
|
| artsy Solana
| |
| | good. Hodad's is
|
| Beach, home to Fidel's, which is fairly
| |
| | truly amazing.Well, I guess my daydream
|
| well-known, and for
| |
| | of eating my way through San
|
| good reason; Fidel's may be the best
| |
| | Diego is about done. As I look out my
|
| Mexican restaurant
| |
| | window and see the
|
| north of San Diego (though I have my
| |
| | skyline of Boston, I realize that I do
|
| personal favorite,
| |
| | live in a great city. I just
|
| which I'll mention in a minute). Fidel's
| |
| | wish it wouldn't rain so much.
